Another year of photography projects!  I can’t believe it’s February already.  Valentine’s Day is approaching and I feel like this year should be special…you know, it’s on the 14th and it’s the year 2014 😉  Here in Canada it’s a long weekend for us.  We have “Family Day” on the 17th so I’m even toying with the idea of taking the kids to Great Wolf Lodge and getting one of those fun upgraded rooms.  They would be in seventh heaven…Note to self to look in to that.

Anyway, I digress…back to my post.  I’ve signed on for a few photography projects this year just to make sure my life is even busier than it already is.  I like to stress myself out as much as possible.  This project is a blog circle.  Each week a group of talented photographers from Canada & the US will be taking a picture that ‘should’ follow the weekly assigned theme that is being posted over at My Four Hens although we’ve already agreed that we aren’t going to be a stickler to that rule.  At the end of the month we’ll write up a quick blog post and link to each other’s images to form a circle that you readers can follow along with.  Here are mine for January:

Week 1: The theme was “reflection”

Week 2: The theme was ‘imperfection’Week 3:  The theme was ‘inside’Week 4: The theme was ‘joy’

beautiful Sarah. I love that last one so much!

  • Rachel - February 5, 2014 - 9:42 pm

I love all these! I especially love that last one – he looks like he’s having the time of his life!!! That is such a great capture!!

Zach loves the snow.  he’s one of those kids that never gets cold enough to want to go inside.  When he’s not throwing snow everywhere, he’s usually eating it.  Connor on the other hand typically lasts about ten minutes and then wants none of it, the proof in a few of these images.  We had a snow fall on a warmer day a few weeks ago so we headed outdoors (with a photo shoot in mind of course).  I love that they let me be a part of their little world.  They have these crazy imaginative little minds and can play and giggle together for hours.  I love that

To kick off 2014, I’m participating in a new blog circle with a group of talented women (and men :)).   Each month we will be picking a theme that our images will need to relate to in some way and they will need to be in black and white.  Images in black and white are something I really want to work on.  I know it sounds simple right?  just make it black and white…but I think there’s a lot more to think about when you are shooting black and white since you don’t have colour to help tell your story.  Composition and mood really comes in to play and you need to be thoughtful of everything in the frame.  I’m really looking forward to project and can’t wait to see what my fellow photographer’s shot for this month.  We chose the theme ‘In the Kitchen’ for January.

oh my gosh great job this month! LOL I love the note!!!!

I started this 10 on 10 project back in Januar and it’s finally come to an end (is it bad to admit that I’m not very sorry to say good bye).  I won’t say I followed the rules too closely but I’m ok with that, it still got me out shooting personal stuff instead of  just for clients.  I didn’t get any shots of my boys on the 10th and really wanted my last month to be about them so I admit these were taken shortly before.  I took them to Ripley’s Aquarium which was recently built in Toronto.  It was so dark in there that I was shooting at some pretty high ISO’s.   I love them all though.  This place is fantastic and my boys had a blast there.

  • Rachel - December 15, 2013 - 1:29 pm

Oh those aquarium shots are so cool! I’m sure your boys had a blast!!! Still can’t get over how much they’ve grown up.

  • Darren Alessi - December 17, 2013 - 1:14 pm

Great shots Sara! That place looks like so much fun! Did you get my reply to your email? I’ve been using sara@sugarlens.ca… that’s correct, right? Cheers!

I missed October’s 10 on 10…in fact our entire circle did.   But November is done!  One more month to go and we are finished this project.  I think I may look for something different to attempt next year.  These projects are great – they get you out shooting when at times its pretty easy to tuck the camera away and forget about it.

My boys each received Galaxy Pad’s and ‘addicted’ doesn’t even describe how much they love them.  I have to hide them now or I get no attention anymore.

    Hey Sara!

I emailed you a few days ago. Not sure if I have your current email address, but I wanted to know if you’re doing the Elf on the Shelf for your boys again this year. Take some photos and post them in your blog! Last year’s were really funny and creative!

    Have a great Holiday! xo

Another month down for our groups 10 on 10 project.  If you haven’t been following along, I am participating in a monthly blog circle – 10 photos on the 10th of each month.  Make sure to stop by Jordan Parks Photography to see how her day was.  I admit I missed the tenth this month.  The photos that follow were from a few days earlier, our last weekend that we’ll spend at our trailer this year.  My kids were so sad but our park set up a play day for all the kids and they had a ball!

When we arrived home that night, we stopped off at the local splash pad with this awesome foutain the kids can run though.  Couldn’t resist a bokeh shot!!!
