Yay! I knew you would catch up Sara! Love your shots! Now on to this week: White. : )

To my first baby Zachary,

We just celebrated your 6th birthday – SIX!!!  I can’t believe it.  I still haven’t forgotten the whole ordeal with your birth and assumed it was foreshadowing how difficult of a child you would be but you turned out to be the most sweetest, kindest boy I know.  We started off a on a rough note – I could never get you to sleep at night and your dad had to put you in the car seat and swing you back and forth for a good half hour, and then it was pins and needles to see if you would stay asleep for the transfer to your bassinet but that didn’t last too long  and you turned out to love your sleep time.  At 1pm everyday like clockwork you would go down for a three hour nap and wake up happy and ready for tummy time.  I never realized how lucky I was until I started comparing notes with other moms who didn’t have the luxury of a child who napped long.  By one years old you were telling us you were tired and going up to bed on your own before even giving us a chance to stand up.  How I giggled every time I saw you on the stairs waving good night to us.

Fast forward to today.  I bought you a PS3 and the Skylanders game for your birthday and Connor & I have lost your attention!  We must have about 40 skylander figures now. You beat the game without any help from me and just seemed to understand where to go and what to do…I would like to think you get that from me lol.   Your birthday was celebration has been crazy busy for us.  We had two parties, one with your school friends and then a sleepover with all your cousins.   You attempted to help me make your birthday cake but I never claimed to be a baker…I was very happy to capture the moment you were making a wish… and you know what you wished for?  All the money in the world so you can buy all the Skylanders, lol.  You dream big 😉

You recently went through a few weeks of being ‘aggressive’ with other kids at school.  I worry so much and we talk about it…you seem to understand and I hope it will not continue but maybe I need to step in sooner when you and Connor are play fighting.  You are both so strong and love to pretend you are superheroes and it never occurred to me that you wouldn’t realize that other kids may not play rough like you two do.  I am really looking forward to the spring so we can use up all that pent up energy you obviously have 🙂     Last summer we finally got you riding your bike…training wheel’s are still on but I can’t wait to get you out this spring and get those training wheels off.  I know you will do amazing, you were walking at nine months old and running down hills by the time you were one, laughing and smiling always.  You have beautiful smiling eyes, they sparkle when you laugh.  This image was taken last summer up at our vacation trailer… it was the first time I didn’t have to push you once or help you in any way.

You love the water.  I think you were a fish in a former life. We spend most every weekend at our trailer in the summer and it’s hard to get you out of the pool or lake.  I am buying an underwater video camera for this summer just so I can capture all these amazing moments with you.

In the fall of 2012  I asked you a bunch of questions and I sat you down last month and asked you these same questions again, and found it so neat to see how your answered them this time, clearly showing how you’ve grown and matured but laughed my ass off at your answer to the first question.

I’ll end this one by saying the same thing we say to each other before bed:  I love you more than anything, everywhere and everytime.

Love Mommy xox

The theme chosen for this months black and white circle was ‘Nature’.  As you can see, my dog was longing to get outside so despite the freezing cold weather, we headed out for a walk and I took the opportunity to get all the photos for this months theme.  You can follow along our small blog circle by visiting Rebecca over at Rebecca Wyatt Photography.

February flew by quickly and Zachary’s birthday is coming up.  He wants more Skylanders…apparently the 34 characters we already have aren’t enough.  I really don’t want to invest any more money into this game when I know from experience that they’ll be moving on to another addiction soon enough so I’d love to hear some ideas for a cool birthday present for a soon-to-be six year old  🙂

This post covers the images of the weekly themes for February over at M4H Photography, which I”m happy to still be sticking with and having fun doing so.  I love colour but I’ve been really digging the black and whites lately…

  • […] head on over to Sara’s blog to see more gorgeous […]

I’m very very very excited to join a group of women who have spent the last year writing monthly letters to their sweet little boys.  I knew when I heard about this project that I wanted badly to participate.  This is something my boys could read later in life to remind them of how much I love them both and how special they will always be to me.  My memory is so bad that this will help to capture the funny little stages they go through and show how much things can change within a few months.  My ‘plan’ is to make a nice press-printed album for each of them containing the letters and pictures from each post.  They are obviously too young to appreciate this gift now but I know in my heart that they will cherish it when they are older.  I will be alternating each month between them so they can have a post ‘all about them’.  Since Zach will be turning 6 in March, February will be dedicated to Connor.

To my sweet Connor,

Time is flying by for me.  I feel like it was only yesterday that we were preparing for your birth and worrying about how Zach was going to handle sharing the attention he was used to receiving and now here you are in kindergarten. As a December baby, I fretted over how tough I imagined school would be for you, being the youngest by almost a year to most in your class but you surprised me.  Don’t get me wrong, you got off to a rocky start (ahem…three notes from the teacher in one week about you throwing toys at kids heads) but your teacher has assured me you are progressing wonderfully and rarely hears the word ‘No!’ from you now.  I wish I could say the same ‘sigh’.   Although you can be a stubborn little man, you melt my heart with even the hint of a smile.  You are already aware that you can get anything you want out of me with the right amount of charm.

Your giggle is my most favourite sound in the world.  You giggle over everything.  It’s so contagious and puts a smile on the face of everyone around you.  There is something really special about you that people are so drawn to.  Even my grandfather (your ‘Papa’ who just celebrated his 89th birthday) has the biggest crush on you.  He talks about you and asks about you all the time, so much so that I sometimes worry it’s going to upset the members of our extended family.

Your imagination blows me away. You and Zach can spend hours up in the playroom acting out scenes from stories you make up, and at the moment are both fixated on Skylanders.  I will sit outside the door and just listen to the two of you, trying my hardest not to giggle and give myself away.   But you’ve been upset lately because Zach has started playing video games and your hands are still too little for this. I think you feel like you are losing your playmate but please know that Zach will get bored of this soon and come back to you…if not, I promise to limit his video-game time even more for you.

You are very thoughtful for someone so young.  You seem to sense when I (or anyone for that matter) need a kind word or a hug, and I cherish this about you.  But lately you are the one that seems to need the hugs and I worry about this.  You have become more attached than usual to me, wanting me at your side at all times, even waiting outside the door of the bathroom for you…what is going through your mind I wonder.  I know this past year has been tough for us all, with your daddy and I separating, but I really hope you know we both love you so much and you and your brother will always be number one in our lives.  You and Zach are all I think about when you are not with me.

You may not remember but in the fall of 2012 I asked you a bunch of questions and I sat you down today and asked you these same questions again and like last time, tried my hardest not to laugh at your answers.  Here are some of the questions I asked and hopefully I’ll remember to do this each year as you grow (and yes that is tape on your mask…you broke it and made me tape it back together for you):

There is so much more I want to say to you but I’ll leave it for the next letter.  I’ll end this one by saying the same thing we say to each other before bed:  I love you more than anything, everywhere and everytime.

Love Mommy xox
